Our Mission

The Bailey NPA Booster Club is a registered 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to support the Native Plants and Animals program at Bailey Middle School through fundraising, community building, and hands-on learning experiences focused on native Texas ecosystems.

Programs

The Bailey NPA Booster Club consists of teachers, parents, and community members who work together to provide multiple programs that support our program's mission.

NPA Class

Bailey Middle School students across all grade levels can apply to take Ms. Tafoya's semester-long Native Plants and Animals elective class through their elective choice sheets for the next school year. Learn more
 

NPA Club

All Bailey students, staff, and family members are welcome to attend our weekly after school NPA Club on Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:00 pm at the greenhouse and chicken coop, which is located on the east side of the school. You do not need to attend the NPA class to participate in NPA Club. Learn more

Campus Conservation

In addition to educating students and community members about the importance of growing native plants for native pollinators, we actively implement these ideas on the Bailey campus. Learn more

Butterfly Fest & Native Plant Sale

Butterfly Fest & Native Plant Sale is both an annual fundraiser for the NPA program and a free festival open to the community with nature-themed activities, entertainment, and education stations. Learn more

2025-2026 Accomplishments

Urban Forest Grant
 

Secured a grant from the City of Austin to plant 37 saplings in front of the school and create a student-led tree health observation program.

Animal Programs

Supported 10 chickens, 8 ducks, 2 rabbits (new this year!), 6 worm composting bins, 2 aquariums, and 2 butterfly hatching units.

Scout Partnerhips

Partnered with prospective Eagle Scouts to build a new duck pond for the coop and 6 air pruning beds for students to grow trees from seed.

Bring Back the Monarchs Grant

Secured a grant from the Native Plants Society of Texas to create a "Monarch Waystation" butterfly garden.

Improved Infrastructure

Purchased 5 new picnic tables for outdoor classroom, provided new gardening tools for students, and installed a roof over the entire chicken coop.

Butterfly Fest Success

Raised over $6,500 at Butterfly Fest 2026, hosted 400+ visitors, and welcomed 15 education partners.

Pets in the Classroom Grant

Secured a grant to set up a 40-gallon fish aquarium, 20-gallon tadpole grow-out aquarium, and two reptile observation enclosures.

Improved Grounds

Mulched new air pruning bed location, nursed trees back to health, and rescued milkweed plants on the athletic fields to transplant.
