NPA Club
The after school NPA Club provides students with fun, hands-on activities in our outdoor classroom and chicken coop every Thursday from 4:00PM - 5:00PM. Formerly known "Chicken Club," NPA Club now includes many other topics around native plants and animals!

What to Expect
In addition to interacting with our chickens and ducks in a fun, casual environment, students get to participate in many other educational activities during the school year. The club is led by the NPA teacher, Ms. Tafoya, and members of the booster club. Students do not have to be enrolled in the NPA class to participate. Check out some of our past lessons and activities:
Native Plant Activities
-
Collect, process, and plant native seeds from the Bailey campus
-
Learn about the importance of soil composition and mix a custom blend for our on-site air pruning beds
-
Rescue zizotes and antelope horn milkweed plants from high-traffic areas on campus (like the athletic fields) and transplant to our butterfly garden
-
Propagate plants by harvesting and "up-potting" cuttings (Gregg's mistflower, heath aster, and fall obedient plant are great for this!)
Native Animal Activities
-
Support our native solitary nesting bees by building "bee hotels" out of cans and bamboo and creating "bee waterers" out of planter saucers
-
Provide shelter for native toads and frogs by creating "toad motels" out of ceramic pots for your yard
-
Learn about vermicomposting (composting with worms) and how to sift worm bins to get worm casting fertilizer
-
Understand the importance of lizards and snakes in your yard, and get a "meet and greet" with the reptile pets of some of our members!

NPA Club

We are looking for volunteers who can regularly attend our NPA Club every Thursday from 4:00PM - 5:00PM and help plan or lead activities, or monitor students in the chicken coop. Contact us for more information.
